What is Powder Coating?

What is Powder Coating?

You may have seen on our social media last week that we were posting about powder coating. If you are interested in a greater understanding of the process at Tranquil PC, you are in the right place.

Powder Coating is a process of applying paint to a product. Unlike traditional forms of liquid paint, powder coating uses air dry paint applied electrostatically. This is utilised in our factory here at Tranquil PC. We use powder coating to paint elements of our products such as the orange rack elements on our Rugged Fanless Servers.

The coated products are then transferred to an oven to effectively ‘cure’ the products which makes the coating of paint more durable.

What are the drawbacks?

Using this method requires lots of preparation because there is potential risk for dust, dirt, and debris to get into the product. Having a very clean environment is paramount for this process.

What are the benefits?

Powder coating contains no solvents which means less harmful toxins are released into the air when products are coated. This means it reduces harm to the environment.

Using this process can also generate very thick layers of paint and effects on finishes that may not be able to be achieved by using the traditional methods of painting products.

If you are an OEM customer, powder coating can be used to adapt to your branding and business needs.

To see how the process works, check out the video we posted last week.
